Let Him Posture

Lieutenant J.G. Beardsley, Personal Log

Just got off the comm with Dad. I told him about my transfer to the Excelsior, and he barely batted an eye. Just told me what he usually does, about how it'll just be a luxury cruise compared to how he served. Yeah right, Dad. I know you served on the Sutherland--that ship was bigger than this one, and probably more luxurious, too. Who does he think he's kidding? Everybody knows they made them bigger in the past.
Whatever he served on, it wasn't more prestigious than the Excelsior. Let him posture and peacock about his hard life; I know now that I'm onward and upward to greater things. You know...now that I think about it, I bet he knows it too. He was probably just taken by surprise and didn't know what to say. But it's pretty sad that when his daughter surprises him with good news, his first reaction is to downplay it.
Well I'm not letting it get to me. This is my last night aboard Intrepid, and I'll be on the shuttle in the morning.
Computer, end recording.
